Becoming Brooksmart

I’m a Bostonian, who moved to California in the 90’s. There I became an established Hollywood makeup artist and creative entrepreneur, (session singer, actor, model, writer, director, producer)…Later, business development executive.

My passion for building businesses (and people), was sparked back there at age 23 while working with Rod Goodman, Photographer at our prolific headshot studio in LA. When we duplicated our business model in New York City in the early 2000’s, my vision crystallized.

I would become a “plug and play” COO. Don’t let me fool you, this was not an effortless linear path, yet I did go on to become involved in brand and product development, management, line launches and resets for Roxy Girl, Quiksilver, Tommy Hilfiger (Tommy Color), and Bobbi Brown to name a few projects. In the last ten years, my work has brought Olaplex to the international markets, launched celebrity hairstylist and recording artist Guy Tang as a brand worldwide, and had me on the subsequent release and distribution of his line, #mydentity.

I’ve trained, managed and mentored high performing sales teams nationwide, and partnered with all sizes and types of brand clients such as Jose Eber, Quench, Thairapy, and on the retailer side, Stanley Korshack, Neiman Marcus, Costco, Sam’s Club, Walmart, and even Kroger.

Over time, I’d be a part of establishing and building 30 different brands and companies, and countless wealthy successful executives across multiple industries. And then, in the middle of this storied career of helping others in the Health & Beauty space drive growth and revenue… a global pandemic rocked the entire world in 2020.

Like so many others, I had to look at my life differently, and suddenly. What became important again was to dream for myself. Still motivated by leadership, I was also inspired by events to return to my roots behind the chair and recall what I wished I’d had… and began to develop my own line.

What started out in a travel trailer on a ranch in Texas, Today, has grown to 15 SKUs to be rolled out throughout 2024 and 2025.

Under the banner of my consulting company, I’ve created an “anywhere” skin care + skin protection collection that combines multiple products into just a universal few. The range is intentionally unisex, all ages, natural and safe, portable, and inclusive of ALL people, in both body and in mind. Healthy and quick and easy was my focus-  minimalist and functional, over fashionable.

I aimed high in the process of working with labs and manufacturers in the last years that it has taken me to create the final products, to not just use the best ingredients that I know work, yet to also incorporate the way men, women, young people, mature people, athletes, and even professional make up artists and aestheticians-  live and think and feel and act on their goals, personal and professional. I desired to have my future customers view my products as unfussy, essential and timeless “tools,” rather than as “cosmetics”, so that they might become a part of their daily routines. Like a Q-tip, or a Kleenex. I wanted to make skin care a simple and even enjoyable habit, because Everyone wants naturally beautiful glowing great skin, and Not to cover it up, but most can’t keep up with a multi-step routine or the spa visits it takes to get and maintain that. And Everyone Needs light protection daily, but no one likes smearing goop out of a bottle onto their skin, or, they are allergic to the chemicals commonly used in formulations... So they go without it. They may not even know that clean alternative ingredients exist. I asked people: “Do you know what "physical sun protection” means? Have you ever seen a parent trying to put sunblock on a child? It’s a nightmare! Have you ever been on a golf course and had to wipe product on your pants after applying it? It’s a mess, right? As a MUA, if you could cut skin prep down to just one step, wouldn’t that be Awesome? As an aesthetician, if you found a product that could color correct and neutralize redness in skin, right after a treatment, in fact, if it sped up healing, wouldn’t you carry it?” Of course!”

I’m familiar with these pains. I know the answers to these questions, as I’ve educated on these concepts and principles and provided solutions for decades. Yet  Now, I’ve got the dream product line that I can put in the hands of the beautiful thoughtful and busy people that need them.

 

I’m aware that today’s natural products customer is more informed, socially and ecologically in-tune and responsible, and desires personalization. I solved that problem too. Today’s health and wellness consumer also, like me, seeks companies to support and do business with that don’t just “make products”, but that make products that provide effective solutions to their own personal and/or public challenges. They want and need brands that mirror their dreams and ideals

It is my intention with SWIPE, SMOOTH, SNIFF, SWEEP, and SWAG, to see Everyone experience a new, accessible, non-toxic, effective and speedy way to experience their best looks ever, improved confidence, and heightened health and wellness inside and out.
